Who do you call when you have an emergency in NY Harbor?

 Always call on VHF channel 16, the distress channel, to obtain assistance and to notify nearby vessels of your situation:

 
   IF LIFE IS IN IMMINENT DANGER  IF LIFE IS NOT IN IMMINENT DANGER
   
 FIRST: "Mayday - Mayday - Mayday"  FIRST: "Pan - Pan - Pan"
 or press the Distress button on your DSC-enabled VHF or handheld  

 SECOND, report the following:

  • Vessel GPS position or position relative to pier number, street or landmark building

  • Your problem - engine breakdown, loss of steering, line in prop, collision, sinking, fire, injury, man overboard or security incident

  • Assistance required

  • Your name

  • Vessel name

  • Vessel description

  • Number of persons on board and assurance that all are wearing their Personal Flotation devices (PFDs)

  • Your intentions
